Adhan

Recital	Arabic	Transliteration	Translation
4x	ٱللهُ أَكْبَر	Allāhu akbar	God is the greatest.
2x	أَشْهََدُ أَنْ لاَ إِلَـٰهَ إِلَّا ٱللهُ	Ash-hadu an-lā ilāha illā allāh	I acknowledge that there is no god but God (Allah).
2x	أَشْهََدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رُسُولُ ٱلله	Ash-hadu anna Muhammadan-Rasul ullāh	I acknowledge that Muhammad is the Messenger of God (After prophethood).
2x	حَيَّ عَلَىٰ ٱلصَّلاة	Hayya'alas-ṣalāh	Hasten to prayer (Salah).
2x	حَيَّ عَلَىٰ ٱلْفَلاَح	Hayya ʿalal-falāḥ	Hasten to establishment of Islamic principles.
2x 2 *(Only for Fajr prayer)	ٍٱلصَّلاَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ ٱلنَّوم	As-salatu Khayrun Minan-nawm	Prayer is better than sleep (Recited only for Fajr prayer's Adhan)
2x	الله أكبر	Allāhu akbar	God is greatest.
1x	لا إله إلا الله	Lā ilāha illā-Allāh	There is no god but God (Allah).

2x	حَيَّ عَلَىٰ ٱلْفَلاَح	لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللهِ	La hawla wala quwata illa billah	There is neither might nor any power except with Allah.
2x 2 *(Only for Fajr prayer)	ٍٱلصَّلاَةُ خَيْرٌ مِنَ ٱلنَّوم		sodaqta wa bararta	You have confirmed the truth and you did well. (Respond only for Fajr prayer's Adhan)
2x	الله أكبر	الله أكبر	Allāhu akbar	God is greatest.
1x	لا إله إلا الله	لا إله إلا الله	Lā ilāha illā-Allāh	There is no god but God (Allah).

The supplication after adhan

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ أَبِي حَمْزَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْكَدِرِ، عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَ ‏ "‏ مَنْ قَالَ حِينَ يَسْمَعُ النِّدَاءَ اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلاَةِ الْقَائِمَةِ آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ، حَلَّتْ لَهُ شَفَاعَتِي يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ ‏"‏‏.‏

Narrated Jabir bin `Abdullah:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "Whoever after listening to the Adhan says, 'Allahumma Rabba hadhihi-dda` watit-tammah, was-salatil qa'imah, ati Muhammadan al-wasilata wal-fadilah, wa b`ath-hu maqaman mahmudan-il-ladhi wa`adtahu' [O Allah! Lord of this perfect call (perfect by not ascribing partners to You) and of the regular prayer which is going to be established, give Muhammad the right of intercession and illustriousness, and resurrect him to the best and the highest place in Paradise that You promised him (of)], then my intercession for him will be allowed on the Day of Resurrection". (Sahih Bukhari #614, Riyad as-Salihin)

Adhan as the sign to determine the position of the sun and its times interval

Adhan does not just alert us about the prayer times, but adhan also make us alert about the sun position of the day and the time interval, so that we can manage our time wisely and systematically. It is important for the 4 season countries because the sun position change at each season. The prayer time is not constant, unlike in Malaysia. 

12am in each country does not mean midnight at every country. Adhan also can determine the day and night time for each country. By determine the prayer time at each location for the rest of the year, we can determine the day and night time at every location by determining the sun rise and sun set.

It is very helpful for the blind people too.

Islam is a universal religion that promote unity. We have Adhan around the world, at different location at different times.

Since we can determine the prayer time by mathematical calculation, then we can get to know the prayer times for the rest of the year. For the traveller, they can determine the day time and night time at particular places by referring to the prayer times table calendar. You may refer to the phone apps, local mosque or Islamic Finder website: https://www.islamicfinder.org/

Gadget is a manmade application. Though is is helpful and easier to use gadget, but human innovation and technology always have limitation such as run out battery, and virus. That is why we need to learn on how to determine the prayer times by using position of the sun, manually, as Allah's creation has no limitation.
