Jihad (جهاد)

Jihad means "struggling" or "striving" to shift from one condition to a better condition for the sake of Allah. For example:

1. Diplomatic Deal with the tyrant ruler



The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "The best type of Jihad (striving in the way of Allah) is speaking a true word in the presence of a tyrant ruler."

[Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

Narrated AbuSa'id al-Khudri:
The Prophet (ﷺ) said: The best fighting (jihad) in the path of Allah is (to speak) a word of justice to an oppressive ruler. [Sunan Abi Dawud 4344]



3. Taking care of our parents

One should not go for Jihad without the permission of the parents

Narrated `Abdullah bin `Amr:
A man said to the Prophet, "Shall I participate in Jihad?" The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Are your parents living?" The man said, "Yes." the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Do Jihad for their benefit." [Sahih al-Bukhari 5972]
It was narrated from Mu'awiyah bin Jahimah As-Sulami, that Jahimah came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said:
"O Messenger of Allah! I want to go out and fight (in Jihad) and I have come to ask your advice." He said: "Do you have a mother?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Then stay with her, for Paradise is beneath her feet." [Sunan an-Nasa'i 3104]

4. Seeking knowledge

5. Share knowledge of Islam

6. Earn money by work, to support the family

7. Performing Pilgrimage (Hajj)

Narrated `Aisha:
the mother of the faithful believers, I requested the Prophet (ﷺ) permit me to participate in Jihad, but he said, "Your Jihad is the performance of Hajj." [Sahih al Bukhari: 2875]
I said: "O Messenger of Allah! We consider Jihad as the best deed, should we not then go for Jihad?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, "The best Jihad for you women is Hajj Mabrur (i.e., one accepted by Allah)." [Al-Bukhari & Riyad As Salihin].
It was narrated that ‘Aishah said:
“I said: ‘O Messenger of Allah, is Jihad obligatory for women?’ He said: “Yes: Upon them is a Jihad in which there is no fighting: Al-Hajj and Al-‘Umrah.” [Sunan Ibn Majah: 2901]
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of allah said:
"Jihad of the elderly, the young, the weak, and women, is Hajj and 'Umrah." [Sunan an-Nasa'i 2626]
8. Control our own desire (nafsu)

For an example, like a man who struggling to control his desire from become gay or LGBT. The man is encourage to fasting, to perform solah and make sincere supplication to Allah directly. Also, the man has to avoid gay porn or any kind of porn. Sexuality is a choice.


Also, the drug addicts or alcoholic who struggle to leave their addiction.


9. Charity

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
"The Messenger of Allah said: "The one who strives to sponsor a widow or a poor person is like the one who strives in Jihad in the cause of Allah, the Mighty and Sublime." [Sunan an-Nasa'i 2577]
